CHELSEA
Hilario - 7 - Surprisingly hassle-free afternoon, but handled well and did what he had to. Wasn't tested enough by Liverpool.
Branislav Ivanovic - 7 - Not as threatening going forward as Bosingwa, but defended well and battled for every ball.
Ricardo Carvalho - 8 - Was very much on top in his duel with Torres, and looks back to his very best form.
John Terry - 7 - Dealt with most things with minimum fuss, and was often well placed to clear any danger.
Ashley Cole - 7 - Coped with Kuyt well, but was unable to offer much going forward.
Michael Essien - 7.5 - Did his job in covering Gerrard's roaming runs, and got better as the game progressed.
Michael Ballack - 6 - Quiet by his standards. Looked a little lost on the right hand side and was handled effectively by Liverpool's left hand side.
Deco - 6.5 - Started brightly, but his impact was minimal until a neat pass allowed Drogba to set up the opening goal.
Frank Lampard - 6.5 - Unable to get the goal he desired, but worked hard and it was his tackle which began the move for Anelka's goal.
Nicolas Anelka - 7 - Very quiet, but like all great strikers, took his chance when it arrived. Dealt with an awkward ball superbly to beat Reina.
Didier Drogba - 8 - He is very much Carragher's bete noire, and his presence was vital again for Chelsea. Created both goals with perfect crosses, but spent a lot of time on the ground.
SUBSTITUTES
Florent Malouda - 7 - Kept the ball well when he came on for Deco, and was well placed to wrap the win up in stoppage time.
LIVERPOOL
Pepe Reina - 7 - Helpless for the goal, and handled everything else with his usual class.
Glen Johnson - 6.5 - Defending has been questioned, but he did well today. Crossing was a bit hit and miss though.
Martin Skrtel - 6.5 - Aerially did very well, still suspect with the ball at his feet but was a lot better today than he has been lately.
Jamie Carragher - 6 - He swept up well, but looked very susceptible to the pace of Anelka and the power of Drogba.
Emiliano Insua - 7 - Defended as well as anyone in red, handling the physical presence of Ballack excellently and did his bit going forward.
Javier Mascherano - 7.5 - One big mistake in the build up to the goal, but was excellent in the holding role and shored up a midfield that was under scrutiny.
Lucas - 7 - Competed very well in midfield, but was not as incisive with the ball as the game needed him to be.
Dirk Kuyt - 6 - Very quiet, lost his battle with Cole and struggled to assert himself. Wasted a few good crossing positions.
Steven Gerrard - 6.5 - Was very good in the first half with his energy and use of the ball, but faded in the second. Still offered a big threat throughout but could do with working on his set-piece delivery.
Albert Riera - 7 - Positive in possession, as he looked to run with the ball and shoot, but faded fast and was a little sluggish to close down players.
Fernando Torres - 6 - Was given a rough time by Terry and Carvalho, who were in his face at every opportunity, but still saw a few good chances go begging. Not his best game at all.
SUBSTITUTES
Yossi Benayoun - 7.5 - As usual, Liverpool looked a better side when he arrived. Was unlucky not to start.
Ryan Babel - 6 - Introduced to add some zest going forward, he troubled Cole more than Kuyt had, but with little end product.
Fabio Aurelio - n/a - Late introduction for Insua.

STEVIE: WE'LL SHOW RIGHT REACTION Paul Eaton 01 October 2009 | |
![]() | Steven Gerrard has insisted the Liverpool players will have recovered from their midweek Champions League setback in time for Sunday's crunch clash at Chelsea. |
The Reds are preparing for their weekend showdown at Stamford Bridge on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Fiorentina on Tuesday night, but the skipper believes it will be a different Liverpool side which takes to the field in west London at the weekend. "It was a really disappointing night," Gerrard admitted. "We are disappointed with our first half performance. We just didn't turn up and were second best all over the pitch. We deserved to go in behind. "There was a reaction in the second half – without creating many clear cut chances – but we lost the game in the first half. "We didn't do what we usually do in Europe. We usually play with a high tempo, pass the ball well and play really well on the counter attack. "Those things weren't there and it was all over the pitch – from front to back. "Now we've got a massive game at Chelsea on Sunday. We have to get this result out of our system quickly and show a reaction at Stamford Bridge." Liverpool have slipped to third in Champions League Group E after Lyon's 4-0 demolition of Debrecen, but Gerrard insists there's still all to play for over the remaining four games. "It's wide open in this group and there is a lot of football still to be played," Gerrard added. "It's important now that we win our next home game against Lyon. If we win all our home games and try to pick up a couple of points in the last two away games then we will be fine." Gerrard's sentiments were echoed by teammate Lucas Leiva, who admits Liverpool can't afford to dwell on their Italian frustration ahead of Sunday's big four showdown. The Brazil international said: "We must learn from these mistakes and bounce back at Chelsea, we must win there before the international break to boost our confidence. "Chelsea are in good form at the moment, certainly at home, but we know we can do it if we go there with the right attitude. "We have the quality to get a win there, that will then improve our confidence in the next two games in the group against Lyon." |

Liga Inggris Makin ketat, di pertandingan lain secara mengejutkan chelsea tumbang di tangan wigan 3-1... Liverpool punya harapan buat juara EPL musim ini. YNWA!
RAFA: TORRES CAN STILL IMPROVE
Jimmy Rice at Anfield 26 September 2009
Rafa Benitez claims Liverpool fans have yet to see the best of Fernando Torres despite his sensational hat-trick in the 6-1 victory over Hull City on Saturday.
The Spain international all but secured the points against Phil Brown's men before Steven Gerrard and Ryan Babel (2) added their names to the scoresheet.
Torres now has eight goals from seven games this term, yet Benitez is adamant that he has yet to reach his full potential.
"He can do even better," said the boss. "In the last three games he's been really good. He's improving and his mentality, workrate and movements show his ability.
"Still I think he can do better. The main thing is the mentality of the player. I always say the same: he's keen to learn and that's the main thing. That means he will improve. How much depends on him.
"?20 million is a massive figure for us, so we knew he was good. But the main thing when we decided to bring him here apart from his quality was the potential, his age and the future he had. So, we are very pleased now but he can still improve."
The 6-1 thrashing of Hull contrasts sharply with a frustrating 2-2 in the corresponding fixture last term.
Yet Benitez insists he has not changed his system in a bid to quash damaging home draws.
He said: "We are not changing anything. Here, if you look at the team, it was more or less the same. It depends on the movement of the players. The system is more or less the same.
"Maybe we have more accuracy this year. If you look at the statistics we're having more shots on target this year and we are scoring more goals.
"We were playing with a lot of confidence here and creating a lot of chances. At the end we could change players, give players a rest and think about the next game.
"Six goals is fantastic but it could have been even better because we had some chances. That's another positive - the mentality of the team going forward, winning the game and still trying to score more."
Liverpool are now just three points behind league leaders Chelsea following their 3-1 defeat at the JJB.
Benitez thinks this is more evidence that the Barclays Premier League title race will be hard to call this season.
"We talked about this before," said the Spaniard. "The top sides will lose games. You'll see more teams losing and there will be more competition at the top of the table. That's positive for the fans and for the press - because you can write more things every single day. It will be a funny year."
Liverpool meet Carlo Ancelotti's men at Stamford Bridge next weekend on the back of six straight wins.
Benitez added: "It is important to win some games in a row, so confidence is high. But Chelsea are a strong team with quality, so it will be a very, very tough game." ( liverpoolfc.tv)

Fernando Torres paid tribute to the impact of Ryan Babel after the Dutchman came off the bench to supply him with the winning goal in Saturday's 3-2 victory at West Ham. El Nino was the talk of the Capital after taking his tally to five league goals for the season with a double against the Hammers - but he was quick to shrug off his heroics by praising his teammate's contribution to the Reds' third successive league triumph.
"Everyone knows Ryan is a fantastic player," said Torres.
"He played on the right wing and he gave me a fantastic cross which was easy for me to attack the ball and score. It is easy for a striker when the cross is as good as that.
"He is a player with quality who can do things like this, so without Ryan I couldn't have scored. It's thanks to him I could score the goal to win it for us.
"We knew before the game that this was a difficult place to come and win. West Ham are a very good team at home but we now have momentum and we got the win.
"We played really well and we deserved it. We need to keep playing like this and keep working hard, because when every player plays well and works so hard then it's difficult for any team to beat Liverpool."
After a lively start to proceedings Torres broke the deadlock with a sensational solo goal at Upton Park.
He admits he was pleased with his first strike of the evening and now hopes that there will be many more to follow for the remainder of the season.
"My mind was to try to cross it as soon as possible because I was on my left foot," he said. "I was looking for a teammate but I didn't see anyone so I just kept going and managed to score, which was nice for me but more important for the team.
"West Ham kept coming back at us but we managed to get the third goal and we have to be happy.
"I hope there will be many more goals. I know when I'm working hard they will arrive so I have to keep working hard all the time for the team."
The victory over the Hammers moves Liverpool to within three points of leaders Chelsea ahead of their clash with Tottenham on Sunday.
Torres feels the Reds are beginning to rekindle the winning mentality that saw them finish second last season but believes they must tighten up at the back to ensure they sustain a challenge.
"We have to keep winning games which is the main thing but the next target is to keep more clean sheets," he said.
"That will be good for the team and good for Pepe. We have to improve in defence and keep more clean sheets."
Fernando Torres akhirnya menunjukkan mentalnya sebagai striker utama sekaligus menutupi kerapuhan perhanan the anfield gank. Semoga di pertandingan berikutnya, Liverpool bisa membantai LEEDS UNITED (a) 19:45 Tue 22nd September ( Carling Cup third round ) banyak gol tanpa balas!
